Moving IT from a Tactical to a Strategic Role

From the Desk of Ryan Binkley

Hello and welcome to our May 2018 eNewsletter. I hope that 2018 is progressing well for both you and your business.

IT departments in most businesses now play a critical role in the ongoing growth and success of the enterprise. If your IT department is more reactive and is constantly putting out fires rather than strategically planning for the future needs of the organization, then you should read our lead article in this month’s newsletter:

Moving IT from a Tactical Role to a Strategic Role

The idea of having an IT group that is closely aligned with the goals of the company is especially critical as you negotiate with buyers for your business. More and more buyers are emphasizing their IT check list while doing due diligence on their targets. Positioning your IT department to support the company’s overall strategic goals can pay big dividends down the road, not only in operational improvements but in enhancing your company’s valuation.

I hope you find the ideas we share in this month’s eNewsletter helpful.

Please remember that your relationship with Generational Equity doesn’t end once our initial evaluation is completed on your company. We provide you with two updates of value at no additional cost over a five-year period. If your business is performing better now than it was a few years ago, it might be a good idea to contact us to review your company’s current business enterprise value.

On a related note, business valuations have improved due to the new tax reform so that alone may be a good reason to update your valuation.

Keep in mind that in addition to a value update, we also will provide you with our Roadmap for Enhancing Value, a document that is designed to give you ideas on steps you can implement to build the enterprise value of your business over time. Our clients find this tool extremely helpful as they focus on growing their businesses for future acquisition.

If you are interested in updating your company’s valuation, would like to make an informed decision about your options in the marketplace, or have any questions for us at all, please call our Chief Experience Officer, Jay Hellwig, at 972-232-1156, or send Jay an email at and he will be in touch.

Thank you for your time and I wish you all continued success in 2018.
